CV Advice
Over the years we have interviewed many hundreds of candidates. Below are a few tips based on our experience to help you in the all-important first interview:
-
Listen carefully to the question you are being asked and answer this question and only this question. Sounds simple enough, but in our experience a lot of candidates don't do this.
- On this point - try to answer questions both precisely and concisely. Candidates who digress too much or give long-winded answers stand less chance of securing the job.
- Avoid interrupting your interviewer at all costs.
-
Try to relax during an interview. The client wants you to be the right person for the job as much as you do.
-
Eye contact is important. A candidate who avoids eye contact usually looks as if they have something to hide.
-
Turn off your mobile 'phone. You don't want to look at the call register and find out that your current boss is trying to get hold of you in the middle of your interview.
-
Body language is important. Fidgeting, shuffling, fiddling with articles of clothing, jewellery etc. gives the impression of someone who isn't in control.
-
Be positive. Don't undermine yourself for comic, or any other effect.
-
Don't be negative about previous employers, especially your current one, even if you have had horrendous experiences. Putting a positive spin on negative experiences is a better option.
-
Remember your interviewer is probably under time pressure. Be sensitive enough to realise when an interviewer is trying to wrap things up
